At the age of 9, Mitchell began playing cricket as a wicketkeeper for Northern Districts. However, when he was 14, his club coach insisted him to be a blower which would make a prominent career. And look what it turns out to be for him.
Then, at the age of 19, he began serving for his home state, New South Wales in 2009. His performance in-state team elevated him toward limelight replacing the suspended Aaron Bird during the final match of the season. Also, after he gained a spot at the Centre of Excellence in the offseason in 2009, he took 21 wickets and made a half-century during the 009-10 season against Queensland.

The 29-year-old made his debut on ODI match against India in 2010 when his senior baller was injured. He also got selected in the test series against New Zealand in 2011. During that time, he took four wickets in two matches and later left the squad. Then, in 2012, he played in the test match against South Africa where he took six wickets and scored fastest fifty. Not only this, he scored 99 runs against India during the 2013 test match.
Mitchell also is the man behind winning the 2015 World Cup tournament and receiving Man of the Tournament award. He even broke the world record of Pakistani bowler, Saqlain Mushtaq by taking 100 wickets in 52 matches than 100 wickets in 53 games. In 2019 Cricket World Cup, Mitchell is named in Australia’s squad. During the game, he has become the quickest bowler to take 150 wickets in ODIs in his 77th game. Moreover, he was the first bowler to take five wickets to haul against New Zealand at the Cricket World Cup. Besides World Cup, he is serving for Sydney Sixers as left-arm fast bowler since 2011.
