At the age of 9, Mitchell began playing cricket as a wicketkeeper for Northern Districts. However, when he was 14, his club coach insisted him to be a blower which would make a prominent career. And look what it turns out to be for him.
Then, at the age of 19, he began serving for his home state, New South Wales in 2009. His performance in-state team elevated him toward limelight replacing the suspended Aaron Bird during the final match of the season.
