Shohei Ohtani is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher, designated hitter, and outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels of MLB. He holds the record for most home runs in a single season by a Japanese-born player. He previously played for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball League.

Ohtani finished the 2020 season batting .190/.291/.366 with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs, and 7 stolen bases in 43 games. He agreed to a two-year $8.5 million contract with the Angels on 8 February 2021. He was elected to the upcoming 2021 Home Run Derby on 18 June and is scheduled to be the first pitcher.
